A fun trip to the Lucknow Mahotsav

The much-touted Lucknow Festival is indeed a once in a lifetime experience for a traveller. Let us explore the grandeur and envelope in the festivities of the region today.

The vivid and vast Awadh culture of Lucknow is popularly known for its traditional celebrations, fairs and festivities all around the globe. One such culturally grand festival is the Lucknow Mahotsav which you can attend and enjoy once you reach the city. If we go back to the history of this festival, we’d find the origin of Lucknow Mahotsav in the year 1975-76 which was then called the Tourism Year by the south Asians. It is interesting to note that the rich art, culture and tourism of the entire state was spread to the other parts of the globe with this festival. Following this, it was established that the Mahotsav will be celebrated every year. Today, this festival is celebrated on a very large scale and it comprises of Qawwalis, Ghazals, Thumris, Dramas, Colourful processions, Sarangi and Sitar recitals along with various classical dance performances.

This ancient commemoration also exhibits many mouth-watering, local and commercial food and beverage stalls with authentic items of the regions. You can also try the world-renowned Aminabad Biryani, Kakori Kababs, Kulfi-falooda, Aloo Chaat,Kabab Parathas, Kesaria Doodh and an endless variety of non-vegetarian and vegetarian dishes on the menu. It also gives many food connoisseurs and foreigners to pamper their taste buds with their delectable curries and spice mixtures.

The entry ticket charges are quite economical and ranges from anywhere between Rs 10 to Rs 50 depending upon the season. You can also avail the tickets from celebrated city malls and other designated places at the same price. Be it clothes, food or handicrafts, you will find anything and everything at the Lucknow Mahotsav. The unmatched, electric and festive energy of this event attracts huge crowd to itself.

If you are wondering how to reach Lucknow, note that it can be unravelled by all major means of transportation.  Prepaid cabs from the Lucknow Airport will be the best way to reach the heart of the city.
