Best and worst drinks that Crohn’s disease patients should be aware of

Along with the intake of anti-TNF drugs, biologics, and other medicines that supress the inflammation and related symptoms that indicate the onset and deterioration of Crohn’ s disease conditions, proper hydration is a crucial factor that Crohn’s disease patients should look into. This is because, the deteriorating condition of diarrhoea can lead to significant loss of water from the body, eventually causing dehydration, which can be a dangerous condition in itself. Hence, in order to avoid life threatening condition of dehydration, Crohn’s disease patients have to carefully adopt the right hydrating options that supply the adequate amount of water each day. Apart from causing severe dehydration, chronic diarrhoea can also increase the chances of formation of kidney stones. This makes proper hydration extremely important; which means a Crohn’s disease patients must have at least eight to nine glasses of water or fluids each day, in order to stay hydrated. But, all the fluids that we are aware of are not recommended for Crohn’s disease patients. 2. The best hydrating method that Crohn’s disease patients can make use of is to have adequate amount of water each day.

  3. While coffee in reasonable amounts might not do much harm, increased intake of caffeine can aggravate Crohn’s disease symptoms and result in unpleasant outcomes like loose stools and increased frequency of diarrhoea.

  4. Use meal replacement shakes that do not contain free of lactose, fructose, and sugar alcohols.

  5. Though seemingly healthy and nutritious, fruit juices are loaded with sugar, which can be both natural and added, the reason why they are not recommended for Crohn’s disease patients.

  7. Milk and milk products can be the storehouses of immense amounts of proteins, vitamins, and minerals. Yet, it can cause flare-ups in certain patients who are lactose intolerant.
