Good works doesn't just happen, and good works do not fall on people like ripe mangoes - good works are produced through a conscious process. If I may, "Your life is either producing good works or bad works - there is no middle ground". A teacher whose students succeed in an external examination, having poured out his or her mind and head on the students; and a teacher, whose students fail in an external examination, having failed to transfer knowledge; have both produced works - they became and did their best; however, we are clear about the person hat did good work and the one whose work was bad.
Make the tree good, and its fruits will be good is the word of the Lord Jesus Christ - but today, we love to work hard and even harder on ourselves to do better. However, the surest secret of doing good works is becoming a good person. When you see a mad man in action; his or her works are reflections of the madness; and when you see a stingy person, hi or her works (living) show it. Therefore, trying hardeer on your work, without trying on yourself, will only result to weak or even dead works.
Dead works are also works; however, their memories fade with time. You must therefore ask yourself sincere questions about your life, lifestyle, job, business, ministry and relationship - Is this a good work or not? Can I boldly represent this work in the public? When these works are mentioned, do they point accusing fingers at me or they justify me? See what Jesus told the people who were doubting Him:
Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the Sake of the works themselves.
That is it, your works are expected to justify your life, your calling, your marriage and your ministry. What you do must speak clearly about who you are. Your life and your lifestyle must have same tone. And don't forget, the key to do great things is becoming a great person.
Fow we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus FOR GOOD WORKS, which God prepared beforehand that we SHOULD WALK IN THEM.
If you observe that Scripture very closely, you will notice that your work is not what you do per se; but the life you live - ..."that we should walk (live) in them." Hence, the key to doing good works, is living a good life. And until a man is created in Christ Jesus, such a perso cannot live a good life. Until your life is truly a PRODUCT of God's will (wisdom) and power, you cannot live a good life, which is the foundation for doing great things in life.
God must work on your life, your business, marriage and ministry before any good works can be done.
The life you live will sonner or later reveal the works that are seen of you. Don't just wish to do better - first, become better. While you my have a dream of cleaning Nigeria or your nation of corruption, you must be careful to fine-tune your own value, ethics and character, which are indispensable for anyone that desires good, enviable and trans-generational works.
Indeed, doing is preceded by being - do not become overwhelmed with the goal of doing more; work to become more patient, honest, sacrificial, listening, understanding, caring, diligent, faithful, loving and discerning among others. Your works and your life are intertwined, even you cannot correctly separate them; therefore, to become better at work; become better at your living!
